1994 MAZDA B2300 TRUCK Stalling When Going Uphill

Joel Booth’s question:

THANKS FOR THE TIPS ON MY JEEP. I HAVE ONE MORE QUESTION YOU MIGHT ANSWER, I ALSO HAVE A 1994 MAZDA B2300 TRUCK 132,000 MILES. MY PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN IT GETS WARMED-UP THE ENGINE TENDS TO SHUT DOWN ABOVE TWO THOUSAND R.P.M.S WHEN GOING UP A GRADE. I CAN SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART AND THEN GO ANOTHER MILE OR SO AND IT DOES IT AGAIN. THIS IS WITH A FULL TANKS OF GAS. I HAVE HAD NEW INJECTORS INSTALLED WITH NOR RESULTS. WOULD THIS BE FUEL FILTER, COMPUTER , EGR VALE, OXYGEN SENSOR ,FUEL SHUT -OFF VALVE , IGNITION SWITCH ETC. ARE THERE ANY COMMON PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL YEAR, RECALLS THANKS FOR YOUR HELP JOEL

Answer:

I once saw one due exactly that and it was the automatic transmission going out, it would stall the engine down only when going up an incline, but that’s exceptionally rare. I have also seen bad fuel pumps or a clogged fuel filter do the same thing, so definitely change out the fuel filter first, it could be that simple. Always start with the simple things first, like the filter, then the pump if that doesn’t work. There are no recalls for that type of problem in that Mazda, I checked.

2000 Mazda MPV oxygen sensor location

Wayne’s question:

A simple question. Where is the bank one number one oxygen sensor on my 2000 Mazda MPV?”

Answer:

That sensor is the one on the firewall side of the engine right off the exhaust manifold, before the catalytic converter. Bank one on all cars is always the side where the number one cylinder of the engine is. And in your Mazda, that’s the back side by the firewall.

2004 Mazda 6 PCV Valve Noise

Irene’s question:

My 2004 Mazda 6 is making a strange whistling and hooting sound coming from the front of the car. It runs fine, but the noise is a bit too much. Have you seen this?”

Answer:

Yes, I have seen that. There’s a pollution valve on the engine called the PCV valve. It has a hose that connects to one end of the valve which has vacuum pressure from the intake manifold. This hose is rather cheaply made and they often collapses, making strange hooting and whistling sounds. It’s pretty hard to access this hose without removing the intake manifold (which is pretty expensive.) But I’ve done it without taking the manifold off. I just used a bit of elbow grease, some long curved needle nosed pliars, and a bit of selective cursing to get it done.

2002 Mazda 626 idle too high with e AC on

Craig’s question:

“My 2002 Mazda 626 idles too high when I turn the AC on. It runs fine with the AC off, but as soon as I turn the AC on, it idles way too high. I was told there are no adjustment screws to set this down. Is this true?”

Answer:

Yes, there are no mechanical adjustments for the idle speed in that car. It’s all controlled by computers. BUT, you may have a simple fix. On those 626’s, the computer often stores erroneous information on AC idle speed. So have a mechanic erase the keep alive memory in the computer (it’s called the KAM memory.) Once this is done, it should reset the AC idle speed to the factory setting. I’ve seen this a lot in Mazdas.

What do you think about Mazdas?

John’s question:

“Hey I saw a previous post comparing corolla to lancer where the lancer has bad tranny and electric problems. I want to know what you think about mazda’s (mazda3).?”

Answer:

They are better than the lancers by far, BUT Mazdas have a history of automatic transmission problems, Period. If you’re buying a standard tranny, then go right ahead, they’re decent vehicles. But if you’re an automatic man, I’d think twice before plunking my money down on one.

2002 Mazda 626 Rear Window Defroster Fix

Ivan’s Question:  The rear window electric defroster on my 02 Mazda 626 doesn’t work anymore. The fuse is Ok. How can I check out what else could be wrong? It’s really icy here in Michigan

Answer: Those window heaters are a grid system. The power has to come in on one side of the grid, and leave on the other. Check for power going into the grid. If you have power, then get a test light and check the grid from top to bottom. If the light turns on until you hit one spot, then there’s a tear on the grid at the last place you had power. You can actually get repair kits at any auto parts store to repair the tear in those grids. It beats the heck out of buying a whole new rear window piece.

Mazda 3 Power Steering Check Engine Light

Enid’s Question: My 2006 Mazda 3 was wrecked in the front. They did a lot of body work, and had to replace the power steering. Now the check engine light comes on and they tell me it’s something to do with the power steering system. It steers fine, but that light is bothering me.

Mazda3 2006

Mazda3 2006

Answer: Now realize that your little Mazda has an electrical power steering system. There is no power steering pump and rack. And these electrical steering systems, of course, are computer controlled. When the electrical motor assembly is replaced, the computer must be reprogrammed to set things right. So go to a Mazda dealer and have them reprogram what’s called the “EPHRAS module.” That’s what runs computer controls on the electrical power steering.
