2002 Mazda 626 Rear Window Defroster Fix

Ivan’s Question:  The rear window electric defroster on my 02 Mazda 626 doesn’t work anymore. The fuse is Ok. How can I check out what else could be wrong? It’s really icy here in Michigan

Answer: Those window heaters are a grid system. The power has to come in on one side of the grid, and leave on the other. Check for power going into the grid. If you have power, then get a test light and check the grid from top to bottom. If the light turns on until you hit one spot, then there’s a tear on the grid at the last place you had power. You can actually get repair kits at any auto parts store to repair the tear in those grids. It beats the heck out of buying a whole new rear window piece.
