93 Toyota Celica Cruise Control Not Working

Dave’s Question: I have a 93 toyota celica,I had trouble with the dim/bright switch on the steering colunm.pulling back it wouldn’t stay on.Dealer replaced light switch/turn signal column assembly. 2 months later my cruise control light won’t come on, cruise doesnt work,my horn doesn,t work and my airbag light stays on,any ideas?thanks

Answer: All those none working electronics are in the dash and the steering column. This is where the work was done two months ago. So I would assume something in the wiring there was either frayed or moved when the switch was replaced. Now, two months later, the effect is probably showing. SO, take the column apart and see if any wires have fallen out of their loom, or are broken and rubbing against any metal parts.

Of course, check all the fuses to see if any are blown (BUT, realize that in Toyotas if a fuse is blown, it almost always means something is wrong and the next fuse you put in will also blow in a short period of time.) Now those systems are rather complex, even in a 93, so let’s hope a wire has come loose from it’s connection or has broken somewhere in the steering column. If you can’t find any obvious problems there, then start checking things that just break down over time, like the horn switch or the horn itself. good luck,
