What are the best brakes for stop and go traffic?

Mary’s question:

“I drive alot in heavy traffic everyday, alot of stop and go. My brakes grind, squeak, and get hot. I want to reduce my brakes and rotors from getting hot and I want them to brake great; Is there any certain type of brake pads, and rotors, that you recommend that would be good for the condition that i drive my vehicle everyday. I was looking into the slotted or drilled rotors, are they good for better braking time and heat reduction? I drive a 95 C1500.”

Answer:

Akebono ceramic pads are THE best pads for long life and less noise. As for rotors, yes, slotted or drilled rotors dissipate heat better, BUT they wear out MUCH faster and warp quicker with heavy braking (race car driver’s don’t care about lifespan, they change the rotors out for EVERY race.) I’d advise a high quality rotor from a company like Brembo if you can find them locally. If not, you can always find them here on the net.
