Ford Expedition Bad Alternator (Used or new?)

Hank’s question:

I have a 1998 Ford Expedition and am losing power. Can’t roll up windows or anything. Already replaced the alternator a month ago and battery 3 months ago when the same problem occurred. Any suggestions? Thanks”

Answer:

It sure seems like you’re losing electricity again. THE most common problem doing that in your Ford is a bad alternator OR bad wiring going to the alternator. Most people end up purchasing rebuilt alternators when they buy one, BUT new ones are MUCH better. I see some guys going through five or six rebuilt units over a two year period if they get poorly rebuilt alternators. So definitely have your alternator checked out, and if it’s bad, get a different brand that’s better made. And as I already said, pay close attention to the electrical connections on the alternator, as Fords will often corrode from heat and then the bad wiring will ruin the new alternator.
