What happens when you use lower octane gas?

Louis’s question:

“This is a general question which should apply to all computerized cars. What is the near and far term consequences of using low octane gasoline on a designed for high octane automobile?”

Answer:

Well, first they won’t run correctly and have sluggish acceleration. They used to ping when you accelerated uphill due to low octane, BUT now they are computerized and the computer retards the ignition so they won’t ping any more. They just won’t have the zip they were designed for. AND, over the course of time, the engine will carbon up. If you have a supercharged or turbo charged car and run low octane fuel, you can actually damage the pistons and valves from predetonation. If you really want to use the cheapest gas, purchase a car designed for that (as most cars are today.) Don’t buy a luxury car and then drive it on the lower octane gas.
